She is Roma, and they are 'gadje' (non-Roma). She is Marcela Cisarova, a Slovak singer and dancer of Kalderash Roma heritage. 'They' are her musicians—a group formed in France in 2014 around guitarist Benny (of Aälma Dili). Since 2015 and the release of their debut album 'Murchales', they have toured France and Europe, sharing reimagined Roma songs that blend traditional tunes with original compositions reflecting Marcela’s own life journey. Together with this new musical family - each member bringing a unique background - she sings of exile and displacement. With the gentle touch of Slavic melancholy, she uses her powerful voice to make sorrow dance, sweeping us up in a whirlwind of festive energy - an irresistible invitation to the dance floor. Through music, the group offers a striking reflection on cultural diversity and the necessity of unity amidst our differences.
